Today we started out by tearing down camp and going into Gunnison for breakfast we ate a small restaurant in Town called “W” Café we arrived about 8 am and quickly realized that this.. This was a good place to eat as it filled up within minutes of us ordering our food. After our delicious breakfast we went back to the campground to finish packing up and head down the road toward Utah.
For our route today we decided to forego the interstate and take the less beaten path even though it was 45 minutes longer. We left on Route 50 to Route 550 to 62 West to 145 West to 141 to 90 to 191 into Moab, Utah. The road less traveled was well worth traveling. We started out passing a 18 mile long lake outside of Gunnison, it was beautiful, lots of boats and amazing scenery. Further down the road we stopped in Ridgeway Colorado where we enjoyed a milkshake and a walk around town, we left Ridgeway and up ahead we could see a huge thunder cloud and rain. We were not sure how far away it was since you can see so far ahead. We decided to wait for the first raindrops until we put our raingear on. We hit the storm which lasted about 10 miles. We kept our raingear on for awhile but no longer needed it. Again we were enjoying the scenery as we approached the Utah state line. We decided to pull over to take a picture at the sign, get a snack and take a break. We were there for 20 minutes before we saw another vehicle. We got back on the road to head to Moab we saw a place called the “Hole in the Rock” and decided to stop. The hole in the rock is a 5000 square foot house that a man named Albert Christensen built over a 12 year period.
The tour was $6 each but it was awesome to see this home and how it was built. We were really glad that we stopped here. Once we got in Moab we went to the information Center to get information on campgrounds and decided on the Archview Resort which is outside of town and between Arches National Park and Canyonland National Park.
Once we got our campsite set up we decided we wanted to go to Arches National Park to see what we could today. We drove 18 miles back in and saw a lot from the road we hiked one trail but plan to go back tomorrow. As we were leaving we realized that we had not eaten since breakfast and headed to town to get something to eat. We ate at the Fiesta Mexicana. Great food and service. Now we are back at our campground planning out what to do tomorrow.
