Day 5 - Southport, NC

Southport, NC is a charming coastal town located in Brunswick County, North Carolina, United States. It is situated at the mouth of the Cape Fear River and offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. With its rich history, picturesque setting, and welcoming community. We spent the day with Taylor and Josh showing us around. Most of the locals get around on golf carts. Our first stop was Burney's Bakery and got their specialty croissants.  Got a blueberry 🫐 and raspberry they are amazing stuffed with fruit and glazed like a donut.  This is a must stop in Southport. Next we went to Franklin Square Park where they had an outdoor market set up. Lots of local vendors and artists with some unique and beautiful things. We talked to a diver who has been diving about 40 miles off shore and finding Megalodon teeth. We talked to him for a bit and I bought one of the teeth. Next we headed to Port Java for some coffee. Josh shared his love of tracking the ships so we downloaded the Marine tracker app so we could do the same. We began tracking a ship that was leaving the Wilmington NC port and went to the park by the water to watch the ship come through. Next we went to Southport Market to look around and I got something to leave in the house for my friend Pat. She will find it next time she comes down to her house. Then we headed back to the house but first went to the dock near the house and watched some dolphins playing. We went back to relax on the screen porch for a bit. Josh and Jeff began were tracking another ship. We decided we would go for a late lunch so we could watch this bigger ship come through. So just a little before 2 we went to lunch at Provision Company. This is an unusual experience in today's time.  When you put your name in to wait you are instructed to help yourself to drinks from the fridge.  At the end of your meal let them know what you had on the honor system when you pay!!!!  When your name is called you must give them something to mark your table.  Then get in line and order your meal.  After you order walk into the dining area to find your table with something you gave them.  We gave them a pair of sunglasses 🕶️.  The staff was so friendly.  Every time they get a tip they ring the bell and everyone cheers.  Fun must do.  And by the way...the food is fresh and 😋 yummy. Definitely get the shrimp! After lunch we headed over the American Fish Company which is a few doors down. You pay a $1 membership for the year. If you read Nicholas Sparks books and read Safe Haven Southport is the setting for the story and movie. American Fish Company was the restaurant that Katie worked at but it was known as

Ivan's Fish Shack. Anyway we got a couple beers and watched the Zim Thailand ship come through. Afterward we went back to the house for awhile and sat and talked again on the porch. Around 7 we went to Moore Street Oyster Bar for a light dinner and had the Charbroiled Garlic Parmesan Oysters and fried pickles.  Everything was very good. The service was fast and friendly.   We chose to sit outdoors on a beautiful evening.  We really loved Southport NC.

One of the notable features of Southport is its historic downtown area. The streets are lined with well-preserved Victorian-style homes, quaint shops, art galleries, and restaurants. The town has a laid-back, small-town atmosphere that exudes Southern charm and hospitality. We will come here again.

Food looks yummy. That ship is huge. Looks like it might have been windy, according to Judy’s hair. Have fun❤️
