Winging it to Seneca Rock West Virginia

Our first long road trip was memorial day weekend 2014.

Motorcycle Trip to Seneca Rock, WV May 23rd 2014, Friday We left Quarryville, Pa at 7 am 372 to 74 to 182 to 462 to 30 to Rte 15 to 50 to 29 to 55 Stopped at Harpers Ferry National Park. $10 entrance fee, forgot our National Park Annual Pass. Park service shuttles you down to the town of Harpers Ferry. Was a beautiful place with a lot of history. Could of spent more time here but needed to arrive to checkin before 6pm. On our way out of the park Jeff had a Solanco t-shirt on and a couple stopped us they were from Little Britain. (Small world) Arrived at Smoke Hole Resort to check in at 5pm. Checkin is 2.5 miles down the road from the Honeymoon cabins where we stayed. Check in is inside the largest gift shop I West Virginia. After we checked in and were getting ready to leave, we heard someone yell Roy’s name and a group of guys on motorcycles who were staying at the motel came over they were from Lancaster and the one guy used to work at Lancaster Harley and had sold Roy and Kim their motorcycles and now works at Utility trailer who Roy and Kim do business with so the world gets smaller. This evening we went out to dinner at Poor Dave’s located just down the road from the cabins toward Petersburg,WV. Not fancy but food was good. Trout was especially delicious. Then went to Petersburg to get groceries for breakfast and beer for this evening. Back to cabins, enjoyed the evening with beverages and good company. Sat up til about 10:30 then went back to our cabins to enjoy sitting in a bubble bath in our heart shaped tub.

May 24th, 2014, Saturday Got up at 7:00 made coffee, sat on back porch and enjoyed the scenery and the stream. Made breakfast at 8:30 am. Left at 10:30 am and went to Smoke Hole Caverns for a tour. Nice little cave, we had a nice little tour guide. Then off to Seneca Rock. We went to the visitors center, watched people climbing the rock. Then went to the “little” town of Seneca Rock and had lunch at Harpers store upstairs. Food was good. Sandwiches has fresh made rolls. Inexpensive and good. Then decided to ride around. 55-33-219-32-55 about 150 miles. At the top of mountain on 219 we pulled over to see the beautiful view. The view was called Little Germany and if you stop to see it you will understand why it is called that. On the way back we stopped at the store to get steaks for supper. Made a charcoal fire at the cabins and made steaks for dinner. Again enjoyed good company with great friends and went to bed about 10 pm

May 25th, Sunday Up in the morning at 7:30. Enjoyed our morning coffee made breakfast. Left at 10:00 for our ride for the day. Took off on Rt. 55 to and rode to Elkins, WV to take a train ride. After arriving we found out the train only leaves once a day and had already left. The train ride was an all day ride, so off we went to our next destination Blackwater Falls state park. We stopped in the town of Thomas, WV. Had a lot of off Artsy stores and galleries. Walked around a bit. The guys had ice cream and I had a blueberry soda at the Purple Fiddle. Off we go again after spending about an hour and half. We apparently missed our turn to the park it is not marked very well so til we realized we missed it we were pretty far down the road. Stopped at Canaan State Park, saw deer on the way in. Stopped at the park store got a drink and left to Canaan Valley Resort where we took a ride up the ski lift to the top of the mountain. Definitely worth the experience. Only cost a few dollars and the view is awesome! Rode back to the resort where we fished for trout. Kim and I caught 4 rainbow trout and to golden trout which we cooked over the grill for dinner. It was great. Spent the evening playing cards and talking. Went to be about 10 pm
